Basic principle and material properties
MIG ESP is a functional surface coating based on a special thermoceramic technology. Its primary function is to specifically control a building's thermal radiation, thereby reducing heat loss and increasing thermal efficiency.
The coating contains microscopic ceramic particles with highly reflective properties. These particles are embedded in a polymer-modified carrier matrix that ensures permanent adhesion to various surfaces.

MIG ESP works primarily through multiple thermodynamic mechanisms:
-
Infrared reflection
The ceramic particles in the coating have a high infrared reflection in the long-wave range (heat radiation).
In winter, the coating reflects the radiated heat from indoor spaces, minimizing heat loss through convection and radiation.
And in summer, the surface reflects a large portion of the sun's rays, meaning less energy penetrates the building structure and the interior heats up more slowly.
-
Emission control and heat transfer reduction
The coating has a low emissivity coefficient for thermal radiation, which reduces the amount of energy radiated from the interior. Reduced emissions keep more thermal energy in the building, reducing heating requirements. At the same time, the coating reduces the thermal conductivity of the wall surface, meaning less energy is transported through the material.
-
Reduction of heat conduction through the wall
In addition to controlling reflection and emission, the coating also influences heat conduction through the wall structure. It reduces the surface's thermal transmittance, meaning less heat is transported from the inside to the outside. This results in lower energy loss than with uncoated surfaces, even with temperature differences between the inside and outside air.
-
Moisture management and mold prevention
The MIG ESP coating has hydrophobic properties, meaning it repels water rather than absorbing it. This prevents moisture from penetrating the wall, reducing one of the main causes of mold growth. At the same time, the coating's structure allows for a certain degree of vapor diffusion, allowing residual moisture to escape without accumulating in the wall. This keeps the masonry drier, which in turn increases thermal efficiency, as damp walls have significantly higher thermal conductivity than dry ones.
Projects and references
Turkish Embassy in Vienna
This listed building in Vienna, now home to the Turkish Embassy, was restored in the Italian late Renaissance style of 1879. The goal was to preserve its historic character while simultaneously optimizing energy efficiency . The MIG-ESP® Exterior coating system played a key role in this process. The innovative facade coating improves thermal insulation , reduces heat loss , and protects the surface from moisture, environmental influences, and algae growth . After restoration, the facade shines in an elegant white, remains weatherproof thanks to the durable protective coating , and significantly reduces maintenance requirements.

Zollernalb Hospital Albstadt
Hygiene is a crucial factor in controlling infections in healthcare facilities. In order to sustainably improve hygiene standards, MIG ESP® products were used both on the facade and inside the hospital building. This special coating helps to protect the surfaces from moisture and microbial deposits, creating a healthier environment for patients, medical staff and visitors.
Apartment building in Frankfurt-Westend
The MIG ESP exterior coating was used on this apartment building to optimize the energy efficiency of the facade. The thermoceramic coating reflects a large portion of solar radiation, protecting the building from overheating in the summer. At the same time, it reduces heat loss in the winter by redirecting the radiated energy back into the building. This technology not only contributes to energy savings but also provides long-term protection for the building structure against the elements.
Swimming pool in Linden
In indoor pools, evaporated water often leads to condensation, mold, and structural damage . The MIG-ESP® coating was used in this public swimming pool in Linden to optimize moisture regulation .
Advantages:
- Dry walls , reduced condensation and mold growth
- Protection against corrosion and structural damage caused by moisture
- Pleasant, healthy indoor climate for visitors and staff
- Energy savings through improved thermal insulation
The innovative protective coating ensures a sustainable, energy-efficient and hygienic indoor swimming pool.
